about

"Rough-around-the-edges rock filled with melodic riffs and interesting ideas. Right off the start, you're smacked in the face by the riff of "Beggar", a loud, fuzzy and distorted piece of lo-fi goodness. A recommended listen. Give it a go." - HolyFuckingShit40000.com

"Raw, raunchy, good rock stuff" - OfftheDial.com

"Mutts ooze energy and passion, however they do not use punchy volume to disguise any weaknesses, in fact quite the opposite, yes they are 'loud' but they are a tight well crafted group of musicians worthy of closer inspection." - BeehiveCandy.com

We Float EP is the 2nd release from Mutts, a keys-based bluesy garage rock trio from Chicago. The EP was tracked primarily live to tape over 3 days at a warehouse on the North side of Chicago. It was co-produced with engineer Jon Alvin, and tracked to a 1960's tape machine, with minimal overdubs and no use of auto-tune.

Huddled up curbside, holding a brown sign. Hunger & shame - eyes hungry & shameful. Strugglin’ again you’re back in my bed. Your cardboard lips read, “will work for love.”
Stain my lips, magic marker kisses; everyone knows we’ve been through. I’m holding no bills but believe what you need to.
Beggar. Beggar. No sweat to me, small change, beggar.
(I lie)
I seen you downtown still, with your hand out. Hunger & shame, back lookin’ for change. Drawin’ a new sign, knew I would cruise by... reluctantly I’ll do my ‘good deed.’
With my switch in the off position, you act like there’s no light in town. I’m hiding my bills so come pat my pockets down.
Beggar. Beggar. No sweat to me, small change, beggar.
It’s all that I got (I lie)

We float; cigarette ash on a breeze, with smoke smoldering ephemerally. Burn holes wherever we land - and some folks got more than they can stand.
Don’t stick to me.
We pledge allegiance to torn, tattered flags. They hang around our necks like a badge. It’s all the same demon - it hangs around for different reasons.
Angels bestling with buckets and brooms. They float, hustling from room to room. We know... when the house sparkles they’re gone. But most floors can’t stay clean for long.
Don’t stick to me.
I know you don’t like our kind. Just go if you’ve got the mind. We float. No soap can cleanse like you need. Nothing attracts dirt like clean. We float...
We float; cigarette ash on a breeze, with smoke smoldering ephemerally. Burn holes wherever we land - and some folks got more than they can stand.

I make it easy for you. ‘Though I don’t know why, I do... with the words that you choose, you constrict and bind me to your love & affection. Ms. Misdirection -
Handcuffs. I’m locked down & pleading in your handcuffs.

It’s just so easy for you. ‘Though I don’t know why, I do... with the way that you move, you can slide right by the truth. Love n affection, Ms. Misdirection

Handcuffs. I’m locked down & pleading in your handcuffs. Girl who are you today?

Thought I caught my Mama cryin’ when she answered the phone. I said, “Mama tell me what’s wrong. How’s things at home?” She said, “We’re fine.” I said, “I’m made of you Mama, and I know that you’re lyin’.”

I scraped my knuckles, when I got home. I scraped my knuckles right to the bone. And now we’re fine. Ain’t it how you know what love is, when all you can do is survive?

Wanna call up my sister, hope she’s feelin’ good. Wanna call up my sister, really wish I could get her on the line. My sister been my guardian angel, now I got to see her fly.

I scraped my knuckles, when I got home. I scraped my knuckles right to the bone. And now we’re fine. Ain’t it how you know what love is, when all you can do is survive?

You know by the sight of the crosses that line the road.
You know by the sight of the crosses that line the road.
Your baby she got dead man’s curves, ain’t no cruisin’ with her.Get in the left lane boy, ain’t no time to merge.
Back in the right lane boy, ain’t no time to merge.
Your baby like an interchange, ain’t no cruisin’ with her.
You ain’t her only, you ain ‘t even her favorite.
She give no lovin’ but she love makin’ men pay for it.
Say, "it’s alright, she looks good on my sleeve.”
Like your Beatles Target Tee... you ain’t even heard Let it Be.You know by the sight of the crosses that line the road.
You know by the sight of the crosses that line the road.
Your baby she got dead man’s curves, ain’t no cruisin’ with her.
